Hello!
My name is Yvonne. This blog is about my life in Inwood, a neighbourhood on the northern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City.
I moved to Inwood in June 2009, but already spent a lot of time here in the past year because of my Inwood-residing SO (whom you may be hearing from occasionally on this blog).
I love it here! Inwood is a great little neighbourhood (NB: I’m Canadian, and will probably use Canadian spellings most of the time…), and I envision this blog to be a means to connect with other Inwoodet(tes) and to simply share my experiences of the nabe.
Please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions.
PS. The name of this blog was inspired by two great neighbourhood blogs that I’ve been reading since I moved here: Inwoodite and Inwoodist. Thought I would add another variant to the mix…

Hi there and welcome to the neighborhood. I want to invite you to join our neighborhood association, Fort Tryon East Neighborhood Association (it’s free) at the link above. (you can post the link on your blog and we’ll put your link on our site, too)
Thanks for all you do to keep us posted on Inwood!
Best,
Courtney Turay
Hey there, welcome to the Hood! On the 4th, we are having a shindig on the top of the hill. We’ll see the fireworks at the Overlook!

Re: comment above
I wasn’t sure if this comment was a joke, and wasn’t going to publish it (and another similar comment by the same writer elsewhere on this blog, which I’ve decided not to publish since it essentially says the same thing). A quick Internet search suggested that the writer is in fact an Inwood resident who seems active in community affairs, however, leading me to think he might actually be serious. So I’m not sure how to respond exactly. Besides the obvious factual errors in this comment (which I don’t think I need to point out), I don’t think my spelling choices deserve such a vitriolic reaction. I use Canadian spellings (and measure using the metric system, and say the word “about” funny) because, well, I’m Canadian. That’s not going to change. But I do I live and work here, contribute to my community, pay my taxes, etc. The xenophobic sentiment that I believe underlies the comment makes me very uncomfortable and sad (and BTW, is not typical of most of the Americans I know or have met).
Aboot instead of about. That IS funny. Sorry if you are angry.
Great blog! Love the mushroom picture. Viva Canada and Canuck spellings! Don’t be intimidated. How did the marathon go, btw?
David’s comments wouldn’t be quite so offensive if he hadn’t shouted them.
Welcome to the ‘hood! I love the clever blog name! Thanks for all of the info about the Town Hall meeting!
